Research Seminar on Creativity Themes by the DISF Center

From January 21 to 25, 2024, at the Bonus Pastor, the Research Center DISF and the School of Philosophy of our University organized a seminar titled Creativity: Innovation, Transmission, and Motivation in Animals, Humans, and Societies.
The event, with participants from various fields of study - from theology to sociology, from archaeology to economics - addressed the two crucial dimensions for investigating creativity: the social and the environmental. Attention was also focused on cultural transmission strategies as a key element for the emergence of innovations. Finally, the theme of language and its role in creativity was explored.
There were 5 speakers who discussed these topics: Francesco d’Errico (CNRS Bordeaux, France), Niels H. Gregersen (University of Copenhagen, Denmark), Sheina Lew-Levy (Durham University, United Kingdom), Pietro Montani (Sapienza University of Rome), and Michael Muthukrishna (London School of Economics, United Kingdom).
The event represents the initial step of the research project De thesauro suo nova et vetera (Mt 13,52): A cross-disciplinary inquiry into human creativity, supported by the University of the Holy Cross. The project aims to develop a general theory of human creativity capable of engaging with both empirical data and philosophical and theological instances concerning human progress and its anthropological relevance.
