In Memoriam - Antonio Pinzello, First Student and Secretary General of the University
On June 27, 2023, rev. Antonio Pinzello, a priest of the Prelature of Opus Dei, who was born in Palermo in 1945 and was the first student to ever enroll at our university, then the Roman Academic Center of the Holy Cross, passed away.
In June 1985, he defended his doctoral thesis in theology entitled The Presence of Christ in the Eucharist in the Light of the Contemporary Magisterium.
From 1985 to 1988, he also served as Secretary General.
 
The Santa Croce academic community offers prayers of suffrage for his soul.
In the photo, rev. Pinzello is pictured standing during the inauguration of the 1988-89 academic year while presenting the progress report of previous academic activities.

Welcome to... Alumni Santa Croce, Friday, June 23
Friday, June 23, 2023 (at 11:30 a.m., in the Aula Magna), the university held the Welcome to... Alumni Santa Croce event for who have finished their studies this academic year. Following the initial meeting in the Aula Magna, was celebrated a Mass in the Basilica of St. Apollinare, followed by a lunch in the courtyard.

Honoring Prof. Yarza, Dean of Philosophy, as He Becomes Emeritus - June 15, 2023
On Thursday, June 15, 2023, the School of Philosophy honored the academic contribution of Prof. Ignacio Yarza, current dean, as he becomes a professor emeritus. Prof. Goyret elected President of the Committee of Deans and Principals of Roman Theological Faculties
On Monday, June 5, 2023, Rev. Prof. Philip Goyret, current Dean of the School of Theology, was elected President of the Committee of Deans and Principals of the Roman Theological Faculties. He took over Rev. Prof. Pietro Angelo Muroni’s position, who is the Dean of the Faculty of Theology and Full Professor at the Pontifical Urban University. The committee, which is a part of the Conference of Rectors of Roman Pontifical Universities and Institutions (CRUIPRO), is made up of the deans (“decani”) of the faculties and the principals (“presidi”) of the institutes where theology or related subjects are taught. Currently, the committee is comprised of 19 academic institutions.

Presentation of the Book My Years with John Paul II - Personal Notes by Joaquín Navarro-Valls
On Monday, June 5, 2023, (5 p.m. in the Aula Magna Giovanni Paolo II) the book My Years with John Paul II - Personal Notes by Joaquín Navarro-Valls, Director of the Holy See Press Office for more than two decades, was presented.
Written as a diary and published at the author's behest after his death, the volume offers not only an interesting glimpse into the behind-the-scenes work of the Holy See, but also reveals some of the great problems humanity has ever faced, which deeply concerned the Holy Father. The book, above all, provides valuable details of the pope's daily life.

University Academic Research: The First Interdisciplinary Projects Selected
Following a Call for Projects, launched in July 2022, to gather proposals related to the university’s academic development, the first research projects for the coming academic years have recently been selected. Each proposal was analyzed and evaluated by a scientific committee, made up of our own professors and professors from other universities, according to qualitative and quantitative criteria. They were then approved by a steering committee and approved by the Rector’s Board. Alumnus Père Yann Le Bras Awarded the Henri de Lubac Prize 2023
On Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Villa Bonaparte, headquarters of the French Embassy to the Holy See, the de Lubac Prize 2023 was presented to the winners.
