PCM Intensive Weeks on Accountability and Management
On September 23, the Program of Church Management started its II Intensive Week on Accountability in Church Management.
Luanne Zurlo, Executive Director at Brilla Schools Network, and Jim Lundholm-Eades, Consultant for Leadership Roundtable, co-taught the II Intensive Week from September 23 to September 27, 2019. In class, students worked on balance sheets, financial controls & audit, accounting, budgeting, and how to develop a strategic plan.
They focused their attention on a parish and diocesan context, by using examples of real balance sheets of some dioceses and parishes. Students were also given the skills to explain a balance sheet to the laity of the diocese, in a way that is both simple and thorough. Many financial management tools were analyzed, in order to avoid fraud and embezzlement.
During the first day of class Rev. Robert McCulloch, Procurator General of the Missionary Society of St. Columban, payed a visit to our students. He stressed the importance of being accountable for the temporal goods of the Church, and the urgent need of training for priests, religious and lay persons.
During the III Intensive Week of PCM (September 30 to October 4, 2019) classes focused on Managerial and Economic Foundations of Church Management. The topics covered during the week were Crisis Management (Michael Keppel, Founder & Managing Partner Keppel Managementpartners GmbH), Management Foundations (Pierre Lecocq, Vice President of the Fondation des Apprentis d’Auteuil), Economic Foundations (Mark Hanssen, MCE Managing Director - Research Activities), and Fundraising (Fr. Cristian Mendoza Ovando, Professor at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross and member of the Holy Cross Promotion and Development Department).
