International Seminar
Unitatis Redintegratio
Thursday, November 21st, 2024
Aula "Álvaro del Portillo"
«The restoration of unity among all Christians is one of the principal concerns of the Second Vatican Council. Christ the Lord founded one Church and one Church only. However, many Christian communions present themselves to men as the true inheritors of Jesus Christ; all indeed profess to be followers of the Lord but differ in mind and go their different ways, as if Christ Himself were divided. Such division openly contradicts the will of Christ, scandalizes the world, and damages the holy cause of preaching the Gospel to every creature» (UR 1).
With these initial words, Unitatis redintegratio denounces the lack of unity and the urgent necessity of applying ourselves to restore it. After 60 years, it seems useful to reflect on the outcome of this process. Are we moving in the correct direction? What do the different Churches think about the Decree and its implementation? Have we really understood the Decree? These and other questions will be the subject of this International Seminar, with the participation of speakers from different Christian traditions, in a climate of sincerity and trust.
