A meeting on “Religion and customs” with a delegation of Chinese scholars
“Religion and Custom – European religion and its cultural and its cultural tradition” was the theme of the meeting which was held at the University in January, in which the delegation of the Chinese scholars belonging to various institutions, universities and research groups took part, among them the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).
To welcome them were, the rector Luis Navarro and Bishop Juan Ingacio Arrieta, the Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts and the professor emeritus of the Faculty of Canon Law.
The meeting was preceded by a photographic presentation, curated by Vittoria Tam, on the “History of Salvation” and its influence on the Christian art in various cultural areas of the planet. There also participated the Secretary for the Pontifical Council for Culture, Bishop Paul Tighe, and the Secretary of the Secretariat for Communication, Monsignor Lucio Ruiz.
The delegation was led by Prof. Zhuo Xinping, the Director of the Institute of World Religions of the CASS, who in his greetings pointed out the importance of the Catholic Church in the development of the European culture and he showed the appreciation for the activity and the exchange of the experiences that it favours.
It is not the first time that the University accepts this type of initiative which inserts itself, among others, in the area of the development of cultural relations and artistic interchange between the People’s Republic of China and the Holy See.
Those present have also shown a particular interest in the sensibility of the Catholic Church in the area of the youth world, in the development of the scientific research – among which the artificial intelligence, bioethics and advanced technologies – and the virtues and values within the society.
Among other members of the delegation were, Prof. Wang Yaun, the president of the Chinese Academy of Science and the Technology for Development, and Prof. Liu Ruiqui, the president of Culture & brand Research Group.
The meeting was promoted by prof. Alessandro Dri, lawyer and professor of commercial law in China.
