Course overview
Prerequisites:
The student can access this level either if he/she has completed the appropriate second level course organized by the Polis Institute in Rome or if he/she has successfully passed the placement test during the first day of the Summer course.
Course Description:
This course is designed for students who have already learned Greek to various degrees, and have some experience speaking.
Course topics (subject to change depending on common level of students):
Third declension for nouns
Second and third system of adjectives
Present tense active participles
Aorist tense active and middle (indicative, subjunctive, participles)
Contract verbs in –oô and –aô
Prepositional system
Absolute Genitive
Infinitive clause
Possible advanced topics:
Syntax of subjunctive and complex sentences
Final elements of the morphology of the language (Optative, Imperfect, Perfect, Periphrastic tenses).
Development of thematic vocabulary
Three Ancient Greek texts studied during the course (about 20 pages in Greek)
Goals
Fluency reading in Ancient Greek. Ability to understand directly, without translating, more Ancient Greek texts (mainly texts of the Septuagint). Active assimilation of 2,500 words (counting those covered in earlier courses). This course will reach at least chapter 14 of the Polis Level Two course book or begin beyond that point.

Polis method: complete immersion in the language, total physical response technique (TPR) and participative storytelling (TPR Storytelling).

Exams and grading system
Three written exams for the whole duration of the course. For each exam, several morphology and syntax exercises as well as an essay in Greek are required.
Grade:
A: Excellence: 96 - 100%
B: Above the average standard: 86 - 95%
C: Average standard: 76 - 85%
D: Below the average standard: 66 - 75%
E: Minimum criteria to pass: 60 - 65%
E: Fail: 0 - 59%
