Until November 13, 2024, it is possible to enroll by accessing the following webpage of the Gregorian University for the 8th Edition of the Joint Diploma in Integral Ecology, a collaborative initiative of the Pontifical Universities and Colleges of Rome to promote the vision and mission of Pope Francis' Laudato si'. Our University will host the classes of the second module titled The Gospel of Creation, scheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2024. Saturday, October 12, 2024 (9:00 AM, Álvaro del Portillo Hall), the Study Day titled Artisans of Peace: Prophecy of Hope took place, organized by the ISSR at the Apollinare. Dedicated to reflecting on themes of peace, freedom, and hope, the event saw the participation of scholars and witnesses committed to exploring the role of the Magisterium and pedagogical and pastoral perspectives in the construction of peace. In the afternoon, the theme of peace in theological thought was addressed, culminating in a final round table discussion. Poster
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Pastoral Constitution Gaudium et Spes (1965) and as a path of reflection towards the centenary of the founding of Opus Dei (1928-2028), the University is organizing a three-year program of in-depth study, which includes two seminars and an expert meeting each year. Starting from October 15, 2024, and continuing until April 2025, the Department of Church History is organizing a new series of seminars dedicated this year to the theme Vatican Diplomacy: Between Raison d'État and Salus Animarum. The activities—six in total, open to both faculty and university students—will take place on Tuesday afternoons (3:00 PM, Room A207). It is possible to earn 3 ECTS credits. Poster
The 10/2024 volume of Forum. Supplement to Acta Philosophica has been published, featuring some of the most significant presentations from the conference on the theme The Concept of Ius in Thomas Aquinas. This publication follows only a few months after the previous volume. The first section includes contributions from the seminar series Intelligence and the Person: In Dialogue with Some Masters of the 20th Century, which presented two key figures of Italian philosophy, Luigi Stefanini (1891-1956)
The new issue of News from Santa Croce, the free internal bulletin produced by the Communication Services, is now available in the designated displays at the Apollinare and the Library. On Wednesday, October 9th, 2024, as a welcoming gesture and following tradition, the Welcome Day for New Students took place. The program included, at 12:45 PM in the Giovanni Paolo II Auditorium, a greeting from the Rector, Fernando Puig; at 1:00 PM, a buffet in the Courtyard of the Palazzo dell'Apollinare; and at 2:00 PM, a return to the Auditorium for an Information Session, where more detailed information about the University and the services available to students was provided. On Monday, October 7, 2024, in the presence of the Secretary of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, Bishop Giovanni Cesare Pagazzi, and the Prelate of Opus Dei and Grand Chancellor of the University, Mons. Fernando Ocáriz, the inauguration ceremony of the 2024/2025 academic year took place, marking the 40th year of activity for the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. The ceremony began with the celebration of the Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit at the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare, the University's chapel, presided over by Bishop Pagazzi. Among the 21 new Cardinals announced by Pope Francis at the end of the Angelus prayer on Sunday, October 6, 2024, is alumnus George Koovakad, currently an official in the Secretariat of State and responsible for Papal Travels. Born in Chethipuzha (India) on August 11, 1973, he was ordained a priest in 2004 and incardinated in Changanacherry. He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and worked in the nunciatures in Algeria, Korea, Iran, and Costa Rica. At our School of Canon Law, he obtained his Doctorate in June 2006, with a thesis on The Obligation of Poverty for Secular Clerics in the Codes of Canon Law (advisor: Rev. Prof. Luis Navarro).
