On 11 May 2021 at 13:15 the Markets, Culture and Ethics (MCE) Research Centre hosted the webinar Understanding Humanistic Management.
It was the first appointment of the Webinar series Humanistic Management: In the Market, which Culture to act according to Ethics?, in which the Humanistic Management approach was introduced.
Humanistic management is a person-based approach to managerial practice, in which profit is instrumental to the end of man. Such an approach contrasts with other types of perspectives, essentially profit-oriented, where the person is a simple resource for achieving that goal. The webinar will be an opportunity to reflect on what should be the humanistic ethos in business: regarding the vision of work, the role of the person in society and the interaction with nature, entrepreneurial activity and the purpose of business in society.
The guest of the meeting was Domènec Melé, Professor Emeritus at the Department of Business Ethics of the IESE Business School. In the last 30 years, Prof. Melé has been dedicated to research in the areas of economic and corporate ethics, corporate social responsibility, church social doctrine, spirituality and philosophy of management, humanistic management. Author of numerous contributions and scientific articles, published in major journals of the sector, including the Journal of Business Ethics, Business Ethics Quarterly, Business Ethics: A European Review, as well as numerous case studies.
